Celebrations

L.I: To determine our prior knowledge of celebration

This week we were looking at celebrations and what we already understand about them. We know that there are different types of celebrations that different people acknowledge and participate in.

For example: Christmas is a time for family and loved ones to come together to spend quality time by giving out presents. Christmas is a very important event for Christians/Catholics because it is the day Jesus was born.

RFE Reflection

Here are some of the activities I did.

During the holidays I was doing a program called RFE (reading for enjoyment) I did activities during the holidays for 5 days for 2 weeks.

The 1st book I read was called Matilda, it talks about how a bright young girl, Matilda, had a passion for reading, and always had a desire to go to school, as her strict and uncaring parents didn’t let her go.

The second book I read was diary of a wimpy kid (the third wheel) and was about a kid named greg who thought he would be playing video games all summer and sleeping in but his dad had other plans for him.

The tasks I did included drawing my favorite book character and being creative with it like, making my book character as an anime character.

I found the RFE program fun because it gave me a interest in reading books for enjoyment and it kept me occupied during the holidays.

Venn Diagram

LI: To list the similarities and differences as you can between the two texts

Our task here was to compare the similarities and differences between the same story told from two different perspectives. We read The 3 Pigs and The True story of the 3 pigs. The first text was told from the pig’s perspective and the second story was written from the perspective of the wolf.

Something I found interesting about the story was that the story I knew didn’t connected with the story I watched.

Who is at Fault?

LI: To make an informed opinion

This week we have been learning about bias. Bias can be objective which means not allowing bias to affect the book or meaning or subjective which means looking at the past meaning we had. We looked at the same story from different perspectives. A perspective is people view of the book After reading and summarising both texts we thought about and talked about the facts to help us make an informed opinion.

Our group found this challenging because we were getting confused because we were looking at two sides objectively.

RFE Holiday Challenge W2 Day 2

I have done 2 activities. The book I read was called Matilda, it talks about how a bright young girl, Matilda, had a passion for reading, and always had a desire to go to school, as her strict and uncaring parents didn’t let her go.

The main ponit of the first activity was to research about the author if my book I have read. My book was Matilda so my Author study was about Roald Dahl. For the second task I had to use a Venn Diagram to compare my favourite parts of 2 books. The books I chose were Matilda and Diary of a wimpy kid.

I found these activities fun because it helps me read books for enjoyment.

RFE Holdiay Challenge Day 3

Today I have done 2 activities. The book I read was diary of a wimpy kid (the third wheel) and was about a kid named greg who thought he would be playing video games all summer and sleeping in but his dad had other plans for him.

The main point of the 1st activity was to create a situation in what the main character’s best friend would do. I drew Rowley embrassing Greg by saying “play” instead of Hangout. The second task was create a scene that happened in the book. I watched the movie of diary of the wimpy kid and decied to recreate the scene.

I found the activities fun because I got creative and used the movie scene.
